Summary

Lane College is seeking an individual with a deep understanding of and philosophical commitment to student learning. Lane needs a courageous and bold yet balanced influencer who understands the needs of community college students. This highly visible campus leader is responsible for implementing the vision of student success. Services in the following areas: student conduct, threat assessment, and crisis management; Title IX; inclusion, equity, and justice; student programming and leadership development; counseling services; orientation, student life programs; disability services.

The successful candidate will be a mature institutional leader and should have a record of successful collaborations that have advanced student success. This position requires an initiative-taker who thrives amidst a changing and unpredictable work environment and will have documented skills in the areas of leadership across boundaries, strategic thinking and implementation, budget management for cost savings, and assessment. The Dean will report to the Vice President of Student Affairs.

Essential Duties:

  • Provides leadership, management, and oversight for Counseling & Disability Services, Student Conduct, and Health Services.
  • Serves on the Student Affairs Leadership Team.
  • Creates mutually beneficial relationships with students, staff, and faculty, with a special focus on at –risk students and develop communication with faculty members.
  • Provides leadership in managing the institution's response to student incidents and crises.
  • Responsible for Title IX compliance across the College and to provide direction for Title IX in partnership with leadership and campus stakeholders.
  • Participates in maintaining a student- and learner-centered philosophy and a focus on successful student outcomes including engagement, justice and equity, sense of belonging, retention, leadership development, and completion
  • Establishes a dynamic environment which promotes the safety and respect of students, faculty, and staff while recognizing initiative, innovation, and inclusive excellence.
  • Fosters a leadership mindset which values collaboration, civility, and responsible citizenship to enhance and promote effective retention strategies and student services.
  • Actively supports the teaching and learning process both inside and outside of the classroom and advocates for student success; works to create and support a student learning environment.
  • Brings authenticity, passion, and a record of success to new and ongoing initiatives such as peer mentoring programs, student leadership development, orientation, and the like.
  • Assist with the development or revision of policies, procedures and operational activities related to student affairs.
  • Provides leadership for directing college-wide activities related to the Student Code of Conduct, student due process/conduct proceedings to include writing appropriate policies and procedures and conducting investigations and hearings on student conduct matters.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualification

  • Master's degree and at least 5 years of increasing levels of responsibility in relevant areas of
  • Candidates must have graduated from an accredited college or university with a graduate degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform essential job functions, and strong leadership skills with demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication including public presentations.
  • Knowledge of best practices in undergraduate process in higher education.
  • Knowledge of traditional reference materials and electronic resources; and familiarity with information literacy standards for higher education.
  • Skills in leadership and general oversight of a highly motivated team.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; problem solving, conflict resolution, office organization and time management abilities.
  • Operation of numerous technological tools including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Outlook, and searching central student database system (Datatel); and providing excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work creatively in a collaborative, collegial environment; have a strong commitment to user-focused services, and the flexibility to manage multiple responsibilities in a changing environment.
  • Demonstrated skill in respectful, sensitive communication with people who are diverse in their cultures, languages, and abilities.
