Lab Assistant - Full Time (Manufacturing)



JOB SUMMARY:
The laboratory assistant is responsible for performing a variety of medical laboratory tests and analysis to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Works independently in performing standard laboratory tests.

Classification: Non- Exempt
Status: Full -time

QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma/GED Required. Certified phlebotomist or 2 years of previous phlebotomy experience on patients ranging in age from neonate to geriatric and analytical specimen processing experience in a hospital clinical laboratory. Flexibility in work arrangements: may be asked to perform the same task for an extended period of time, perform different tasks on the same day, and work alone in a small space multi-tasking constantly. Ability to work with other people at the laboratory bench. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Software and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) preferred. BLS required within 6 months of hire. Work varying shifts and on-call hours.
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE: Category III exposure to blood borne pathogens and may encounter chemical hazards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensures accurate patient id throughout pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic phases of testing.Draws blood, stores and prepares samples of necessary testing and shipping, reports results to ordering physicians.Monitors procedures and tests in the lab. Performs and interprets QC, completes maintenance as scheduled per equipment manufacturer and CLIA requirements.Screens and processes incoming patients for pre-op lab testing, performs blood banding per protocols.Prepares inventory orders. Rotates stock. Monitors expiration dates.Adhere to International Air Transport Association (IATA) regulations for shipping diagnostic and infections specimens.Uses proper PPE when appropriate.Completes job specific Continuing Education credits (CE) annually.Additional duties as assigned.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.The employee must be able to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis and be able to push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis.The employee must be able to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day.
