Skills Lab Instructor - School of Nursing (Education)
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of bachelors degree from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing
2. Current active California RN license
3. Current CPR certificate
4. Clinical nursing experience
5. Ability to learn new tasks and work with technology (e.g., Microsoft products, ATI, etc.)
6. Effective communication and interpersonal skills required
7. Demonstrate effective teaching skills

Essential Functions:
1. Instruct nursing students in the acquisition of nursing skills for incoming 1st semester students in collaboration with the Health Assessment/Skills course coordinator
2. Assist and be present for student final health assessment physical and skill proficiency exams
3. Reinforce student learning in the nursing skills lab environments
4. Hold regularly scheduled open skills lab hours with a minimum of 10-15 hours/week to assist 1st -5th semester students
5. Maintain and provide a laboratory environment conducive to student learning activities
6. Organize, manage, and store lab equipment and supplies for nursing skills labs A, B, and C
7. Maintain an ongoing inventory process for supplies in Labs A, B, and C
8. Organize and maintain the lab environments (A, B & C) to facilitate learning (e.g., ensure labs are clean and reset, mannequins clean, and equipment maintained)
9. Participate in program and department committees as assigned
10. Demonstrate effective communication skills to constituent groups including nursing faculty, adjunct faculty, students, vendors, and SU administration
11. Support faculty with instruction in the nursing skills labs as time permits
12. Maintain a working knowledge of mid-fidelity manikins to assist faculty as needed
13. Order needed disposable lab supplies at the beginning and end of every semester and as needed
14. Attend and participate in ceremonies for the university and School of Nursing (e.g., Commencement, Pinning Ceremony, etc.)
15. Other responsibilities as assigned

Standing and sitting
Standard workday requires various abilities including standing, walking, sitting, bending, flexing, lifting, twisting, stooping, kneeling, reaching, stretching, pushing and pulling to gather and stock supplies, operate equipment (computers, various types of medical devices, hospital beds, etc.), and perform required functions of patient care. Often must lift, carry or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally must assist patient position, transfer, or transport requiring lifting in excess of 40 pounds.
Gross and fine motor abilities sufficient to perform required functions of patient care; hand-wrist movement, hand-eye coordination, and simple firm grasping required for fine motor-skills and manipulation; fine and gross finger dexterity required.
