General Surgery - Open Rank-General Surgeon (Finance)



POSITION SUMMARY:

University of South Florida (USF), Department of Surgery is seeking a well-trained, Board Certified and fellowship-trained General Surgeon at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level to join a hospital based practice. The ideal candidate should be clinically experienced with excellent surgical skills and judgment. Communication skills, emotional intelligence and commitment to a team-based practice are critical.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:

  • Doctoral/Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. For Associate or Full Professor- Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.
  • Candidates must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in.

PREFERRED:

  • Board Certified/Eligible in general surgery with added qualifications in Surgical Critical Care.

  • TEACHING DUTIES: Candidates must have recognized skills in the education of residents and medical students and will be expected to active participants in the Department's residency training and educational programs and well versed in educational experience of medical students, residents, and clinical fellows.
  • RESEARCH DUTIES: Participated in research studies and QI activities.
  • ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES: Timely completion of all training courses required by hospital/trauma program including Code of Conduct course and coding courses.
  • CLINICAL DUTIES: Candidates will be expected to provide intensive care clinical services in the surgical trauma ICU providing day and nighttime inhouse coverage. Admits complex trauma and emergency general surgery type cases. In addition, it admits transplant, general surgery, surgical oncology, OB/GYN oncology, ENT. Collect appropriate history, performs physical exam, orders diagnostic tests and formulates diagnosis and treatment plans. Provides health counseling.
  • OTHER DUTIES: Other Duties as assigned.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
    • Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a State university.
    • Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.
    • Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
    • May represent the university, college/school, or department.
