Engineering Practice Leader (Finance)

Your Role

The Engineering Practice Leader will serve a lead function in:

  • Leading project/program and business development activities;
  • Proposal and budget development;
  • Strategic planning;
  • Building relationships with existing and potential clients, as well as managing client interaction;
  • Providing high level consultation to clients;
  • Managing staff, provide staff training and project leadership; and
  • Managing geotechnical and construction inspection projects.

Geotechnical engineering, including:
  • Coordination and supervising SPT boring and rock core drilling;
  • Subsurface evaluations and preparation of geotechnical subsurface investigation reports;
  • Foundation evaluation (e.g., foundation types, bearing capacities, settlement analyses, etc.);
  • Slope stability evaluation, flexible and rigid pavements;
  • Construction inspection and testing (soil, concrete, masonry, structural steel, spray applied fire proofing, etc.);
  • Preparation of field reports, geotechnical field consulting, and evaluation of adverse earthwork conditions;
  • Management of geotechnical laboratory and able to conduct laboratory testing; and
  • Periodic travel to project sites for meetings, audits, or other activities.

Civil and environmental engineering including:
  • Oversight of projects and staff supporting hazardous waste site investigation/remedial engineering;
  • Water line extension and water/ground treatment treatment system design engineering, construction, and operation.

The candidate will also interface with other Environmental and Community Planning/Economic Development Practice Leaders to cross-sell services and enhance customer experience.

Qualifications

15 or more years of relevant experience, including proven experience in special inspections, geotechnical engineering, and materials testing, with a track record of successful project delivery.

Successful demonstration of subject matter expertise and technical leadership, and teamwork skills to support project pursuits and implementation of projects with existing and new clients.

Construction experience and ability to trouble shoot issues in the field.

Knowledge of relevant industry-specific software and tools.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

Must able to read and speak English fluently, with outstanding oral and written communication skills.

A strong commitment to safety and quality.

This position requires driving on a regular basis. Passing a motor vehicle record background check and maintaining a valid driver's license and good driving record is required.

Degree / Certifications

BS in Civil Engineering or Geological Engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical applications is required.

MS in Geotechnical Engineering preferred, plus equivalent experience.

Registered as a Professional Engineer in Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

Physical Demands

Candidate must be able work in the field during all seasons and weather conditions, and able to lift heavy loads (up to 30 pounds).

Work Environment

Able to work in both office and project site settings. Hybrid office/virtual office option available.

Able to work with team members, clients and other professional disciplines.

Must be able to interact successfully with all levels of staff, clients and vendors, ability to work in a collaborative process, ability to plan, organize and implement with successful and timely results.
