Senior Legal Counsel (Finance)



Schneider Electric is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel with a minimum of five years' experience in complex commercial contracting and providing advice to business clients in all areas of contracting, including disputes.

In this role, you will support multiple Schneider Electric business units and leverage your expertise in drafting, analyzing, and negotiating a wide range of agreements-including those related to equipment and hardware, software, SaaS, reseller partnerships, and services-across varying levels of scope and complexity.

What do you get to do in this position?

To be part of Schneider Electric's North American Legal team providing legal expertise for various business units with responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Working directly with internal stakeholders and customers as the lead lawyer for select businesses to negotiate complex agreements in relation to equipment / hardware, software, SaaS, and services to support Schneider Electric's business, product offerings and customer projects;
  • Be a business counsel, partner and provide strategic legal support and advice to internal business clients to, among other, proactively mitigate risk, identify areas of concern affecting policy change within the business and driving risk management;
  • Provide pre-dispute advice and devising strategy to effectively support the business to resolve disputes with customers;
  • Providing thought leadership on best-in-class contracting templates, development of contracting best practices, clause libraries and playbooks, and leading associated legal training for internal clients;
  • Provide legal advice and counsel within area of expertise to functional or operational team members and managers to ensure that their current or proposed activities, policies, business practices, and transactions comply with all relevant laws and regulations as well as company policies; and
  • Effectively engaging with management, members of the legal team, and business stakeholders in all areas concerning legal risk to the business.

What qualifications will make you successful for this role?

  • A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school in the U.S.;
  • Bar admission in at least one state;
  • At least five years of experience directly handling, drafting, and negotiating complex commercial equipment / hardware, software, SaaS, reseller, and service agreements as well as providing pre-dispute advice and support to business stakeholders;
  • Experience engaging with executives of the business to provide strategic legal advice and direction
  • Law firm experience will be considered; prior in-house counsel experience within a corporate legal department is a plus;
  • Strong negotiation skills, attention to detail, integrity mindset, high-energy, can-do attitude, tenacity, team spirit and attitude, proactive, collaborative, comfort with ambiguity, strong communication skills in multi-cultural environment, ability to translate complex legal advice into clear and actionable guidance for operational teams;
  • A lifelong learner mindset with a hunger to stay current on legal, technology and business trends, intellectually curious, willing to take on new responsibilities and try new challenges and a strong focus on getting things done and meeting deadlines;
  • A strong commitment to serving as an engaged partner to the business and the legal team on all things commercial contracting;
  • A good understanding of technology and willing to support new legal projects that incorporate and use technology; and
  • Willing to take on new challenges and effectively contribute to organizational goals.
