Director of Safety (Manufacturing)



Summary of Position:

The Director of Safety is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of corporate safety programs. This role involves identifying safety hazards, conducting job hazard analyses, overseeing Workers' Compensation administration, and managing security services. The Director of Safety ensures compliance with evolving health and safety protocols in accordance with governmental and company regulations and oversees security services at facilities utilizing third-party vendors.

 

Functions of the Position:

  • Facility Inspections: Conduct ongoing inspections of facilities, equipment, and employee issues to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Safety Programs: Recommend and implement programs to ensure safety and reduce accident rates. Implement a “best practices” approach to a corporate-wide safety program. Write an annual safety status report with management recommendations. Manage functional budget and supervise employees as appropriate
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all facilities and operations comply with local, state, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA.
  • Training Programs: Develop training and educational programs to educate supervisory and line employees on proper safety and first aid procedures. Conduct safety-related training and train-the-trainer programs. Work with facility managers, human resources, and senior management to implement and maintain safety programs.
  • Accident Analysis: Review and analyze accident reports; coordinate with Workers' Compensation provider to reduce accidents and related costs.
  • Occupational Medicine: Review performance and pricing of occupational medicine clinics and services on an ongoing basis.

 

Education, Experience, and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety or a related discipline preferred.
  • Ten plus years of experience in implementing and managing safety programs to prevent or correct unsafe working conditions, utilizing knowledge of industrial processes, mechanics, engineering, chemistry, psychology, and industrial health and safety laws.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • OSHA 30 Card, General Industry
  • OSHA 40 HAZWOPER Certification

 

Skills and Competencies:

  • Effectively convey safety procedures and policies to employees.
  • Identify and resolve safety issues promptly.
  • Lead safety initiatives and inspire teams.
  • Ensure all safety protocols are meticulously followed.
  • Ability to travel 25%-50%.
