Advanced R&D Engineer/Scientist (Finance)



This role is responsible for providing technical support to the Research Department to facilitate building and maintaining systems that collect, store, process and make data accessible for further analysis or other uses. This individual will serve as a liaison between the Research Department and IT groups to help develop and manage the infrastructure to enable data to be used for data driven applications, provide data storage solutions and ensure data transfer continuity between laboratory instruments, LIMS, network folders or Sharepoint sites.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a liaison between laboratory personnel and IT groups to provide technical support for laboratory computers, servers and network infrastructure development activities such as special use network to make data accessible for storage, transfer, analysis and facilitate troubleshooting activities.

• Support data gathering from various sources to support transformation activities for further analysis including identification of patterns and trends, application of processing formulas, application statistical models for machine learning algorithms or creation of visualization reports.

• Collaborate with IT and lab personnel to identify new opportunities and solutions for data storage and transfer

• Maintain network folders, SharePoint sites or Team sites to enhance communication opportunities while meeting organizational and IT security requirements.

• Stay updated with the latest trends and best practices in data management in compliance with internal IT security requirements.As an Advanced R&D Engineer/Scientist here at Honeywell, you will drive the development of cutting-edge technologies, lead critical projects, and ensure Honeywell remains a leader in technological advancements.You will report directly to our Engineering Manager and you'll work out of our [Des Plaines, IL] location on a [On-site] work schedule.MUST HAVE:

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g chemistry, engineering, computer science or Information Technology)

WE VALUE:

• 5+ years of experience in scientific programming or Analytical Characterization techniques, Chemistry laboratory processes and data analysis

• Experience in network support or IT related support activities

• Scientific programming skills

• Strong understanding of network infrastructure and devices, including protocols like TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and firewalls.

• Proficiency in database management systems like SQL Server, Oracle, and Access for data storage, querying, and manipulation.

• Familiarity with programming languages including C# (Windows Forms), Python, SQL (MS SQL Server), and Excel VBA.

• Experience with software tools such as Visual Studio, Jupyter Notebooks, Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, MatPlotLib, LabView, JMP, VBA, MATLAB, Origin, Tableau, and Power BI.

• Proficiency in SharePoint features, including document management, workflow automation, and collaboration tools.

• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical information to non-technical users.

• Highly organized and able to balance and prioritize a versatile workload

• Knowledge of laboratory practices: Familiarity with laboratory equipment, procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory guidelines (eg. ISO or GMP)

The annual base salary range for this position is $110,000-$137,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
