SUMMARY The Volunteer Developer at Christ the Rock Community Church serves as a shepherd, leader, and protector--walking with volunteers from their first steps of interest to a place of confident, fruitful service. Rooted in the truth that "we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works" (Ephesians 2:10), this role combines relational discipleship with operational excellence. The Volunteer Developer helps people discover their God-given calling and equips them to serve with joy and purpose. This role also safeguards the church by upholding all safety and clearance protocols, ensuring every volunteer is properly vetted and equipped. The Volunteer Developer is committed to maintaining a unified, Christ-centered volunteer culture and communicating church direction with clarity, courage, and care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
Leadership & Development · Cast a compelling, biblical vision for service as worship and discipleship (Romans 12:1; 1 Peter 4:10). · Cast a compelling, biblical vision for service as worship and discipleship (Romans 12:1; 1 Peter 4:10). · Offer spiritual encouragement to sustain joy in serving (Galatians 5:13). · Research volunteer models to help improve volunteer involvement and ownership. · Oversee the background check process on all volunteers · Oversee the process of understanding the temperament, giftedness, skills and passion of volunteers · Develop an Involvement Team to help input the results of vetting and volunteer screening · Create/Enforce Child Safety awareness protocol and training for all volunteers
Recruitment & Onboarding · Proactively recruit volunteers who sense a call to serve (Matthew 9:37). · Facilitate discovery through spiritual gift assessments, interviews, and reference calls (Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-7). · Guide volunteers through the screening process and ensure readiness for placement. · Match volunteers to ministry opportunities in partnership with ministry leaders.
Communication & Alignment · Clearly communicate the vision, direction, and expectations of the church to all volunteers. · Support volunteers through ministry changes, transitions, and organizational updates · Reinforce alignment and shared mission between volunteers and leadership.
Peacemaking & Unity · Stay alert to potential conflict or relational tension among volunteers and teams. · Mediate conflict with biblical principles of grace, truth, and reconciliation. · Encourage unity, respect, and forgiveness as core values of the volunteer culture. · Coach team leaders to practice healthy conflict resolution and relational care.
Operations & Safety · Maintain all volunteer data in Fellowship One and ensure timely onboarding processes. · Oversee the church's background check process, ensuring all volunteers are vetted and cleared before serving. · Monitor expiration dates of background checks, certifications, and re-clearance needs. · Develop and lead training on CRCC safety and protection policies, including child safety protocols. · Uphold all procedures that protect volunteers, ministry participants, and the integrity of the church.
Volunteer Development · Build and oversee a Volunteer Care Team to support onboarding, encouragement, and team connection. · Train ministry leaders in best practices for volunteer care and development. · Model servant-hearted leadership in every aspect of ministry (Mark 10:43-45)
Ongoing Volunteer Care & Engagement · Follow up regularly with volunteers to ensure their health, growth, and connection. · Coordinate meaningful appreciation events and touchpoints throughout the year · Organize training and development opportunities to keep volunteers equipped and engaged. · - Host fellowship events that build community and strengthen relationships across ministry teams.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Build a team of volunteers and develop a staff structure to meet the needs of connecting people with opportunities to serve.
QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES: A growing, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ and love for His Church. Demonstrated experience in volunteer leadership, ministry coordination, or pastoral care. Strong interpersonal, administrative, and communication skills. Capacity to lead with wisdom, humility, and courage, especially in times of change or conflict. A servant's heart that reflects Christ's words: "I am among you as one who serves" (Luke 22:27). To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); with a minimum of one year experience in related field.
Communication/Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general documents. Ability to write reports for data entered.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform detailed work with numerical data and to make basic arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately.
Reasoning and Analysis Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form with attention to details.

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work under pressure and ability to make decisions according to established guidelines. Computer literacy in word processing and spreadsheets is required. Must be able to use Microsoft Word, web-based ministry related software, Outlook, Excel, and proficiently type at an acceptable manner.
Ministry: Ability to identify the needs of others and precepts through effective verbal and listening techniques.
CUSTOMER SERVICE: Handles staff, volunteers, visitors, congregants and vendors inquiries in a positive, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable manner, remembering God as their primary focus. Represents CRCC professionally at every contact with staff, congregants and vendors.
ATTENDANCE: Must be able to report to work consistently. Must be able to maintain an attendance record in compliance with CRCC policies and procedures.
