Senior Clinical Account Executive - Express Scripts - Hybrid (Market Coalitions) (Finance)



This is a hybrid position (3 days per week in-office + 2 days work at home). The incumbent candidate can be based out of any US Cigna Healthcare office.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Clinical Account Executive role offers pharmacists the opportunity to apply their clinical expertise to drive strategic outcomes, strengthen client relationships, and shape the future of pharmacy benefits. Ideal for those aspiring to future leadership, this role supports Clinical Account Executives and helps guide pharmacy strategy execution with internal stakeholders.

Sr. CAEs build consultative, transparent relationships, translate strategy into action, and guide clients through evolving priorities while identifying opportunities to improve outcomes and align with goals. They collaborate across teams to align efforts, drive execution, and share insights that promote improvement and client value. As informal leaders, they mentor peers, elevate the team, and share expertise through clinical forums to support client success and business growth.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Leads implementation and upsell of clinical programs and formulary strategies through consultative engagements - including client presentations, quarterly/annual reviews, modeling/report reviews and rebate performance alignment, in partnership with finance and internal teams.
  • Conducts clinical analysis of medication utilization and formulary performance to identify opportunities, issues, or risks. Translates findings into clear, actionable insights aligned to client goals.
  • Develops and presents comprehensive clinical strategies - including formulary design and health management solutions - in collaboration with account executives and cross-functional partners.
  • Delivers complex clinical information clearly and compellingly to both clinical and non-clinical stakeholders, ensuring responsiveness to client needs and adaptability in messaging.
  • Shares best practices across internal and client-facing teams. Maintains a strong understanding of clinical trends, product innovation, and industry shifts (e.g., drug pipeline trends, delivery innovation) to guide strategic client conversations.
  • Serves as an informal leader and mentor - supporting onboarding, peer development, and knowledge sharing through peer coaching, forums, and interviews.
  • Supports process improvement to elevate consistency and efficiency in clinical delivery, aligning execution to client and enterprise expectations.
  • Represents the clinical voice in internal and external forums - including product development, client advisory panels, and strategic prospecting conversations - to shape direction and increase clinical team visibility.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of client facing experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) preferred. Experience in healthcare and pharmacy benefits are strongly preferred.
  • Advanced degree or pharmacy residency preferred.
  • Active U.S. pharmacist license required; 5+ years of licensure preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple client accounts with a high degree of organization, flexibility, and accountability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to simplify and convey complex clinical information to non-clinical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated presentation strength, strategic project management capability, and comfort navigating ambiguity with clients and internal partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft tools and ability to learn internal analytics and reporting systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership behaviors, including peer mentoring, new hire onboarding, and representing the clinical voice in enterprise-wide or cross-functional initiatives.
  • Self-starter who thrives in a dynamic environment, able to pivot quickly as needed in response to client direction and brings both clinical depth and strong business acumen to consultative client engagements
  • Willingness to travel up to 15% to support client meetings and business priorities.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
