Dining Services Lead Cook (full-time) (Food Services)

We're looking for a compassionate and skilled Dining Services Lead Cook to join our team and help us serve wholesome, homemade meals that bring comfort and joy to our residents.

Job Description: As a Dining Services Lead Cook in our retirement community, you will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals to our residents while maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cooking, experience in food preparation, and a caring attitude toward older adults.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook meals according to set recipes and dietary guidelines.
  • Ensure food is prepared and served on time, with attention to presentation and quality.
  • Follow proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures at all times.
  • Work closely with the dietary team to accommodate residents' special dietary needs and preferences.
  • Assist with meal planning and inventory management.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including regular cleaning and sanitizing.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, residents, and management.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in scratch cooking or food preparation, preferably in a healthcare or senior living setting.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and dietary needs of older adults.
  • Ability to follow recipes and adjust meals for dietary restrictions.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work well in a team and a positive attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to lift, bend, and carry up to 50 lbs, as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year geriatric long-term care/hospital cooking, scratch cooking experience required
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Certification in food safety, sanitation, ServeSave, or culinary arts is a plus. We will train candidates with experience
  • Experience with large-scale meal preparation and catering
  • Knowledge of specialized diets, such as low-sodium, mechanically altered, diabetic, or therapeutic diets
  • Ability to be accurate, concise, and detail-oriented
