Job Description

PURPOSE SUMMARY.

Under the direct supervision of the Election Warehouse Supervisor, is responsible for the completion of vote checking, certification and maintenance of the voting machines, deploying equipment and supplies to voting locations, and adherence to election procedures for the Bureau of Elections. Utilize machine knowledge and election expertise to anticipate issues and outages in line within a strict timeline, quality, and regulatory requirements. Improve equipment performance to increase the effectiveness of system processes, productivity, and election integrity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES.

  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve product issues (hardware and software) for voters, election officials, and coworkers in accordance with state statute and vendor contracts.
  • Serve as a mobile assistant for over-polling sites, check that all machines are active and fully functional, and make repairs where needed.
  • Document systems use procedures, known issues, and solutions.
  • Assist in developing the Early Voting and Election Day warehouse delivery schedule, set up, start, and breakdown times, and miscellaneous equipment needed.
  • Assist in the delivery of equipment to voting locations in accordance with state statutes and federal law. Perform general custodial duties in the warehouse.
  • Perform support staff functions to ensure continuity of work as assigned.
  • Is responsible for knowledge of and will abide by all County and department policies and procedures, New Mexico State statutes regarding elections, federal guidelines for retaining records, and applicable New Mexico Administrative Code.
  • Assist in training staff on the use of machines. Prepare reports and correspondence relating to machine problems.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendor representatives, voting location contacts, and election officials.
  • Assist in the completion of the site reviews.
  • Create and update departmental forms inventorying returned equipment used in official elections.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES. Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS.

Education. High School Diploma or GED.

Experience. One (1) year of mechanical, electromechanical, or computer-related experience.

Education/Experience substitution. In accordance with County policy.

Licenses/Certifications. Must have a valid unrestricted Driver's License (Class D). Must attend yearly training to maintain current Certification as a Voting Machine Technician.

Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver's license record, etc.). Must pass pre-employment background and driving record checks. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

Knowledge of:

  • General office practices and procedures and use of office equipment.
  • Laws and changes dealing with election documents and records; local, state, and federal codes and regulations pertinent to the department assigned.
  • Proper methods to maintain accurate records.

Skills:

  • In computers and applicable software operations.
  • To evaluate facts or situations to determine appropriate action.
  • To handle sensitive and confidential matters professionally and tactfully.
  • To deal with a culturally diverse population.
  • To establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to:

  • Communicate orally and in writing.
  • Work independently with little supervision when performing tasks.
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Take appropriate action while recognizing when it is necessary to refer to the supervisor.

Compensation Range
$18.24 - $29.16
