Job Description:

The EHS Manager will lead efforts at home office that drive towards a safe working environment for all Schreiber partners, customers, visitors and outside contractors in the assigned location(s). The EHS Manager at home office will be responsible for the implementation of successful environmental and safety programs accomplished through coordination of Federal, State, and local regulations and by building a “safety comes first” attitude amongst Schreiber partners. The EHS Manager will have responsibility to work with home office leadership in leading the safety and environmental programs. This position is also responsible for working closely with the VP of Environmental, Health, and Safety on key team meeting administration duties and managing key KPIs and other EHS related metrics.

The EHS Manager will be responsible for overseeing all Safety and Environmental training in the home office. The EHS Manager will work with support staff to ensure that appropriate adult learning techniques are applied and appropriate checklists and other applicable learning tools (e.g. VWI's, e-learning, classroom via vendors) are developed, updated, and utilized. The EHS Manager will measure the implementation and success of safety and environmental training techniques and methods.  This also includes scheduling offsite home office team meetings, US based EHS manager or team meetings including setting up the agendas, securing the venue, working in conjunction with the travel department, and setting up team activities.

This position is located at our corporate office in Green Bay, WI.

What you'll do:

  • Compliance - Lead efforts to improve safety and environmental compliance for applicable programs.  Lead and engage with your direct report (co-op), home office leaders and partners that support the programs. Assess strengths and weaknesses of the home office safety and environmental programs, compliance, and KPIs, including identification of opportunities.                    
  • Written Programs - Develop, maintain, improve and implement applicable Environmental, Health and Safety written programs for home office.
  • Responsible for tracking and meeting deadlines for all Safety and Environmental compliance reporting (OSHA 300A, Tier II reporting, Hazardous waste shipments & manifest tracking).  Work with the home office department to manage waste streams.
  • Training - Oversee and administer applicable Safety and Environmental topics for home office teams and those who travel to the plants.  Includes management of records for verification and compliance.
  • Lead and develop site ERT (Emergency Response Team) in collaboration with on-site nurse.
  • Inspections - Know and understand the Safety and Environmental SOPs.   Lead onsite inspection process and program working with home office department leaders (lab, facilities, pilot plant, etc.)
  • Incident Investigations – Utilize EHS software program to lead and conduct investigations (near misses, property damage, spills, injuries, etc.) Manage site OSHA record-keeping requirements for reported injuries including management of worker's compensation process with our third-party administrator.
  • Maintain current Safety and Environmental training requires certifications and continued education and changes in trends.
  • Behavior Based Safety - Conduct partner safety observations (PSO) training for the leaders in home office.   Validate and verify the quantity and quality of the observations.
  • Work with EHS VP on site budgeting process.
  • Projects - Participate in company initiatives or projects outside of home office which impact our site locations.
  • Tracks and measures Schreiber EHS performance KPI's (OSHA recordables, training completion, action item completion percentages, aPSM overdue items, PSOs (behavior-based safety observations), worker's comp costs, open action items (incidents, audits, compliance calendar, etc.) and engage in a hands-on role to create and implement plans to improve performance in the organization.
  • Leads efforts with the US EHS team regarding Sphera (chemical management). This includes running chemical approval reports, adding & removing EHS users.
  • Coordinate US based EHS Master Schedule (Quarterly home office mtgs., Annual regulatory events (PEAK week) & EHS Mgr. workshops (annual), EHS 101 conference, training tracking & completion, compliance items regularly, other as determined).
  • Event planning for the above meetings (includes, meeting agenda, meeting location, selection and booking of venue with travel department, presentation(s), meal selections & locations, any guest speaker/presenter arrangements, email US EHS team to reserve placeholders on calendar of impending upcoming event(s), prepare before-during-after surveys, work with location venue for site audio/visual aids and technology, send program itinerary for event(s), reserve room blocks with travel for event(s), and order any special awards for event(s).
  • Assist with the execution of EHS contracts (NFPA, Dakota, Sphera, aPSM, etc.) and administrative support.
  • Coordinates updates with EPA/OSHA attorneys to maintain our inspection SOPs.
  • Manages access to EHS SharePoint folders
  • Admin of EHS SharePoint folder to maintain structure and consistency of documents
  • Receives, reviews, grants access through “myaccess” for EHS SharePoint pages
  • Manages access to EHS Teams folders
  • Manages / coordinates review program & schedules of EHS written programs
  • Support site EHS team members for site needs (special equipment, meetings, KPIs, questions, direction to resources, regular EHS support, etc.)
  • Work with leader to order team apparel and supplies (EHS coats, backpacks, notebooks, pens, trinkets, gifts, etc.).  This may include working with the vendor (Elite Group/Staples) for logo apparel & supplies.
  • Manage home office team purchase, expenses & miscellaneous orders.  Create a purchase order (PO) for blanket accounts (see software needs above) and any unique supply orders requested by the plant and approved by my leader.  Receive in any purchase order items so the vendor(s) are paid.
  • Obtain and manage travel card and expenses through expense reporting system.
  • Support EHS teams and publications to the SFI source page (PSO, Sphera, other teams as set up and defined by home office EHS team members, etc.). Source articles include working with the Schreiber communications team.
  • Manage KPIs through Power BI (PSOs) and work with Category Operational Excellence Manager supporting the operations team (Jeremy Dye).
  • Manage Global Safety Incentive Metrics
  • Leads an EHS co-op partner and develops that person to become one of our next site EHS coordinators or managers.
  • Other duties as assigned by the leader.

What you need to succeed:

  • High School diploma/GED plus License/ Certification in Occupational Safety and Health plus 5 years of experience in creation and implementation of environmental, safety and health programs. Or;
  • Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of experience in creation and implementation of safety programs.
  • Experience with creating training programs, conducting plant audits/assessments to identify regulatory improvement opportunities, ways to reduce potential injuries, and convey to site leadership. Generate reports of audit findings.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%
  • Work onsite most days with minimal flexibility to work remotely.
