Mountain Sports School Youth Program Supervisor (Personal Services)



SUMMARY
The Mountain Sports Youth Program Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of all youth lesson programs for all disciplines including alpine, snowboard and Nordic, ensuring the success and proper execution of the Mountain Sports School products and offerings. It is the supervisors responsibility to provide guests with a high standard of instruction, safety, and customer service.

This role involves managing instructors, coordinating lesson schedules, and maintaining a positive and engaging environment for both students and staff.

While this role is specifically designed to oversee the youth programs, it is expected that Supervisors have working knowledge of all Mountain Sports School programs and can operate as a general Supervisor over other programs when needed.

The Mountain Sports School Supervisors collaborate with Mountain Sports School management and Director and act as a Targhee ambassador to guests and role model to staff around the resort.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Understands and operates consistent with Grand Targhee Resorts Vision, Mission, and Values. Actively promote resort, the school and maintain positive guest relations at all times. In general, maintain and enhance the resorts guest focused culture. Manage Youth instructional staff. Hire, motivate, evaluate, direct, monitor and schedule staff to ensure adequate guidance & otherwise direct personnel resources to accomplish goals and objectives of our organization. Assure that staff receives training, support, guidance, feedback and resources necessary to execute their roles. Be actively involved in staff training. Monitor and evaluate and support department operations and activities to ensure successful execution of the areas of responsibility. Maintain open communications with resort personnel and with staff as well as assist in every way possible toward a cooperative and successful operation of department and resort. Actively support and engage guests and staff in promoting safe practices. Maintain work schedules in compliance with regulations and authorities that have jurisdiction and to manage responsibilities in compliance with resort safety policies.
Maintain current status on legal issues and technological advances which impact industry as well as maintain awareness of scope and progress of competition. Ability to delegate responsibility, Collaborate, mentor and lead direct reports, to achieve goals and objectives. Understanding of corporate and resort specific policies and procedures. Ability to perform all duties of an instructor to enhance the guests experience and mentor staff. Working with clients will be on an as approved basis by the Director. Teaching during peak holiday timeframes is strongly discouraged. Working with clients for additional work hours, wages, or gratuities should only happen on scheduled days off or when differed managerial duties dont adversely affect other supervisors or managers and their duties. Teaching lessons to alleviate staffing shortages and requested lessons on the supervisors day off are acceptable examples of managerial teaching assignments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Practice strong leadership and organizational skills Scheduling for all Youth programs, including alpine, Nordic, and snowboarding. Guest service focused. Capable of writing reports and public speaking. Collaborate in creating and maintaining the direction of the Mountain Sports School products. Flexible working hours, including weekends and holidays. Some job sharing may be required. Assist with execution of races, special events, promotions, clinics & camps. Coordinates all youth programming such as multi-week lessons and winter sports programs. Other duties as assigned

RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY:
Protect the safety of self, co-workers, and Grand Targhee Resort guests at all times. Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay. Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor. Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Resorts Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Manual and department-specific procedures or manuals. Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of yourself or others. Drive in accordance with the law and Grand Targhee Resort policies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Also directly supervises 35+ non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university preferred but not required; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced skiing and/or snowboarding skills.

LANGUAGE/COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Manage staff communications in a professional manner.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to be on skis/snowboard for extended periods of time in variable weather conditions.
