Hardware/Electrical/Optical Engineering Intern (Healthcare)

Hardware/Electrical/Optical Engineering Intern

Job Summary:
The Intern will be part of our Essential Field Instruments (EFI) team and support our customers by providing them electrical/optical measurements on newly released test instruments, and legacy instruments requiring work with analog circuits used in conjunction with optical measurements, and also RF instrument support. The position will provide hands-on experience in operating various instruments including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, light sources, power meters, and other lab equipment. The individual must have good communication skills to interact with both technical and non-technical personnel.

VIAVI's Fiber and Access Systems Product group has an opening for an intern to work on various hardware/software development projects. This position will provide support to the engineering team by performing various engineering tasks such as PCB design and test, software coding, and documentation of test results. The candidate will also assist in investigating customer issues and participating in product design reviews.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist engineers in resolving customer issues
  • Performing system-level testing of products
  • Writing hardware documentation
  • Working with circuit designers to debug board level issues
  • Developing test plans and scripts
  • Troubleshooting complex issues in lab environment
  • Assisting engineers in evaluating new technologies

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Job Qualifications:

  • Student must be pursuing a BS degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Optical Engineering or related field
  • Strong interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Basic knowledge of PC hardware
  • Experience with lab equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes
  • Preferably with basic programming skills
