When You Join Our Team as a Security Guard, You Will:

  • Help create a safe and supportive environment where young children can explore, grow, and thrive.

  • Play a vital role in ensuring the smooth arrival and dismissal of children by managing access points and traffic flow.
  • Support the team during emergency drills and real-time situations, helping staff and families stay safe and informed.
  • Collaborate with leadership, educators, and facilities teams to address safety concerns and maintain compliance.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor entrances, exits, and outdoor areas to control access and ensure safety.
  • Greet and verify visitors, parents, and vendors; enforce sign-in and ID policies.
  • Conduct routine safety patrols of indoor and outdoor spaces, including playgrounds and parking areas.
  • Respond to alarms, incidents, or emergencies following established safety protocols.
  • Assist with safety drills (fire, lockdown, evacuation) and support staff during emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate logs and reports of daily activities and any incidents.
  • Work closely with leadership and facilities staff to address safety concerns promptly.
  • Help manage traffic flow and crowd control during peak pick-up and drop-off times.
  • Stay up to date on safety regulations and procedures relevant to early childhood settings.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional security or safety training preferred.
  • Valid Security Guard License (as required by state or local regulations).
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a childcare-related setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain alert, composed, and responsive under pressure.
  • Background check and fingerprint clearance required.
  • Meet state-specific guidelines for the role.
  • Physically able to use a computer with basic proficiency, lift a minimum of 40 pounds, and work indoors or outdoors.
  • Able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children, see and hear well enough to keep children safe, and engage in physical activity.
  • Read, write, understand, and speak English to communicate with children and their parents in English.

Range of pay $20.00 - $27.50 Hourly
In the state of Minnesota, we currently provide an additional $3.00 per hour premium on all classroom hours worked in addition to the range of pay listed. This premium is funded through the Minnesota Great Start Grant Compensation Support Program.
