Vice President, Operational Risk Management (Finance)

Prudential's Operational Risk Management (ORM) team supports the execution of Prudential's strategy by helping to ensure that risks are well understood and managed. Joining ORM provides a tremendous opportunity to see across Prudential and work with leaders to help drive business outcomes.

We are seeking a Head of ORM Framework & Corporate Functions Risk Partner who will be responsible for overseeing Prudential's global enterprise-wide operational risk framework, which sets out the governance, policies, and practices to proactively identify, assess, measure, report and mitigate operational risk exposures. The Head of ORM framework works with first- and second-line risk partners across the company to influence risk and control outcomes through consistent execution, on-going monitoring, and establishing strong partnerships and practices. Additionally, this role will lead second line Risk for Prudential's Corporate Functions, including People practices and Legal & Compliance. The role will report to Prudential's Global Head of ORM. This role requires a strategic thinker with extensive experience in risk management within the insurance and retirement sectors.

The current Employee Work Arrangement for this position is Hybrid and requires your on-site presence in Newark, NJ on a reoccurring basis.

What you can expect:

  • Continuously develop, advance and lead a comprehensive enterprise-wide operational risk management framework that aligns with the organization's goals and business objectives, including providing common standards, tools and technology.
  • Oversee the adoption of ORM practices and integration across Prudential's businesses and functions.
  • Support Risk oversight and frameworks for all risk types, including key enterprise operational risks.
  • Lead the on-going strategy for Prudential's Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) technology bringing together Risk, Compliance, and Audit, along with other enterprise control groups.
  • Lead training and communication across the enterprise for all framework components
  • Partner with first line Risk to monitor and manage risk mitigation strategies for Corporate Functions, including the People team and Legal & Compliance.
  • Directly lead a team of 3 risk management professionals, while providing independent oversight and effectively challenging and influencing the work of larger teams.
  • Collaborate across the risk partner community to promote a risk-aware culture and drive consistent and effective management practices.
  • Utilize data-driven insights to identify emerging risks and inform strategic planning.
  • Provide regular updates on the risk framework maturity and a corresponding roadmap that outlines the strategic direction and timeframes.
  • Establish strong external connections that demonstrate Prudential's strength as a leader in ORM practices and incorporate peer company best practices in the ongoing development of our Risk frameworks.

What you'll need:

  • This position requires keen external focus, finance or insurance expertise, and avid learning given the rapid pace of change globally.
  • Resourcefulness, good judgment, persistence, and the ability to influence others are some of the qualities of a successful candidate.
  • Experience working with a diverse set of stakeholders across large, complex organizations.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field. An advanced degree (MBA, Master's) or relevant professional certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM) is desirable.
  • Experience in financial services/insurance or other highly regulated industries.
  • 15+ years of experience gained through a mix of risk and/or audit related roles; candidates with management consulting experience in these areas would also be desirable.
  • Consistent track record of effectively working with data to manage risk and process re-engineering, simplification and streamlining.
  • Comfortable in ambiguity and an advocate for change.
  • Possess high-level verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to prioritize work and possess good time management skills.

What we offer you:

Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $213,000.00 to $288,200.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills.
